Epidemiological Study in Children and Adolescents With Chronic Hepatitis B

Completed - The purpose of this study is to collect epidemiological data in children and adolescents with chronic hepatitis B(CHB), in particular data on the prevalence of HBeAg positive disease with associated ALT levels , active HBeAg negative disease and decompensated CHB in the pediatric population. Family history and history of HBV transmission is essential to assess the course of the disease and can be used to determine the best mode of treatment This information will be used to assist with the feasibility and design of studies for the Novartis clinical pediatric development program, as the current epidemiology of ediatric CHB is not accurately known in Western countries or the rest of the world making pediatric studies difficult to plan and conduct. This study forms part of the Novartis Pediatric Investigational Plan, a post marketing approval commitment to the EMEA Pediatric Committee. Click for More Details

Feasibility Study of Take-Home LAAM Medication - 3

Completed - The purpose of this study is to test therapeutic benefits of take-home LAAM. (1) Do subjects with take-home LAAM availability show increased clinical responsibility over subjects without; (2) Do subjects with take-home LAAM attempt diversion when random recall and other diversion safeguards are used; (3) Does treatment response correlate with background or drug use variables at intake, discharge, or during treatment? Low Back Pain Patient Education Evaluation

Completed - Back pain is one of the most common of all symptoms. It is also a great cause of days lost from work and visits to health care providers. This study will develop and evaluate an approach to low back pain that allows subjects to talk with each other and with health professionals via an Internet discussion group. Results we will look at include health behaviors, such as exercise; health status, such as pain and disability; and health care use, such as number of visits to doctors and other health care providers. Anyone 18 years old or older who lives in the United States and has ongoing Internet access can take part in the study. All subjects must have back pain and meet the eligibility criteria listed below. Click for More Details

Terminated - The aim of the study is to show that the combination of drotaverine 80mg and ibuprofen 400 mg is more effective and as well-tolerated as ibuprofen 400 mg or drotaverine 80 mg administered alone, in the treatment of primary and secondary dysmenorrhoea. Click for More Details

Trial Of Cisplatin And KML-001 In Advanced Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer and Other Platinum Responsive Malignancies

Recruiting - This is a Phase I Clinical Trial. Phase I studies are designed to determine the amount of investigational drugs that can be safely delivered and to define the side effects that limit the dose. The drug administered in this study is KML-001. It is a highly soluble, orally available arsenic agent. It is currently being tested to determine its effects on telomerase activity. In other words, the purpose of this research study is to find the highest dose of KML001, that can be given without causing severe side effects when it is combined with a standard, commercially available anti-cancer drug called cisplatin. Alendronate and/or Parathyroid Hormone for Osteoporosis

Completed - This study looks at the effects of two medications, alendronate and parathyroid hormone, on bone mass and on bone formation and bone breakdown in women with osteoporosis. We will randomly select postmenopausal women who have osteoporosis to receive laboratory-produced human parathyroid hormone (hPTH), or alendronate, or both for 2.5 years. Study participants will return to the study center periodically to have their bone mass measured and to give blood and urine samples for tests of bone formation and breakdown and for other laboratory tests. Those who complete the study are eligible for one or two 12 month extension studies. Click for More Details

Completed - This study will evaluate the longer-term glycemic effect of two medicines approved for initial treatment of type 2 diabetes. The study consists of a 2 week screening period (2 study visits), followed by an 80 week double-blind treatment period (11 study visits). Also, a sub-study was included to look at changes in bone mineral density (BMD) at the lumbar spine. Click for More Details

Methadone Effects on Zidovudine (ZDV, AZT) Disposition

Completed - To determine whether methadone maintenance alters the pharmacokinetics of zidovudine (AZT). To determine whether any such effect of methadone on disposition of AZT is time dependent and whether a metabolic interaction between AZT and methadone exists. Injection drug users represent an increasing proportion of HIV-infected persons. Since daily methadone maintenance is the major chemical treatment for injection drug abuse, it is important to determine the impact of methadone on AZT absorption, distribution, and elimination.
